The Complete and Inside Fan Guide to Ohio Football

July 3rd, 2011 . by admin

Ohio is a state steeped in football tradition and rich in football talent at the high school and collegiate level. The “Buckeye State” is always neck-and-neck with larger, more populated states like California, Texas, and Florida in producing teams that compete for national titles and players who are national awards candidates.

At the high school level, teams from Cleveland and Cincinnati annually compete not just for state titles, but national titles as well. Ohio’s high school talent pool always catches the eye of evaluators, which is reflected with a large presence in their rankings of college prospects.

At the college level, Ohio State is the marquee in-state football brand and one of the most revered college football programs in the country. It’s common for the team to compete for Big Ten conference titles as well as national titles. Ohio State is often referred to as a “football factory”, a nod to its ability to consistently recruit and nurture some of the best football players in the country. The school sends more players to the National Football League than almost any other college football program.

Famous alumni of Ohio’s college football programs include recent Superbowl MVPs Ben Roethlisberger (Miami University) and Santonio Holmes (Ohio State University).
