The Complete and Inside Fan Guide to Maryland Football

October 10th, 2011 . by admin

Maryland is set to open the 2011 season on Labor Day against the University of Miami. The Terrapins have a new coach for the school year in Randy Edsell who is looking to build on last year’s success. The team is not ranked but they are hoping that things go their way early in the season in order to compete for a ACC championship this year.

The Terrapins are returning many players from a team that won nine games last year. The team is returning 12 offensive and defensive starters and another 29 letterman from last year’s team. This team is not young and they have high expectations for the year.

On offense quarterback Danny O’brein is returning to lead the offensive attack. O’Brien was last year’s conference rookie of the year and is ready for a break out year. In 2010 O’Brien passes for over 2,000 yards and 22 TDs. He will be teaming up with Davin Meggett who rushed for over 700 yards and was one of the candidates for last year’s Doak Walker award. The Terps will have a good tight end in Matt Furstenberg, but will have to find a way to replace their top two receivers from 2010.

The Terrapins are looking for another dominant season from their defense. The team will be returning seven starters who were ranked a the top in many defensive categories. A few stars to keep an eye on are: Kenny Tate, Joe Vellano and Cameron Chism.
